PLACE-MAKERS COLLABORATIVE
PARTNERING WITH THE AVENUE CONCEPT;
I took an interdisciplinary course that was in partnership with The Avenue Concept (TAC). They are a non-profit organization that is responsible for implementing art in public spaces of Providence, Rhode Island. This was a collaborative project, made up of ten students, cherry-picked by the professors, with a background in either design or media communication. For 15 weeks, the design members and I researched TAC and the history of Providence, scouted locations, and then conceptualized and designed a comprehensive proposal for a mural in Downtown Providence. Our final concept proposal was a representation of iconic musicians who have performed at the Providence Performing Art Center (PPAC). Each member was responsible for contributing a different design component. My responsibilities included illustrating the linework for a portion of the wall location and the background shapes and patterns that reflect the musician and the year they performed at PPAC. Then, I assisted in revising and finalizing the final composite of design components and mockups shown in the proposal.
CREDITS: Anna Luetzelschwab painted the portraits. Matthew Scheetz designed the other portion of the patterns. Stephanie Pezzullo and Anthony Colacchio collaborated on the typography. Megan Doyle applied the linework elements defining the painted portraits, as well as combining the majority of the design components for the final composite.
